07.06.2016 - Mick George Ltd wins National Tipper Award
Only a few months after being recognised in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100, Mick George Ltd are at it again, winning the Tipper Haulier of the Year Award at the National Tip-ex and Tank-ex Gala Dinner.
The award was presented on Friday 3rd June at the Harrogate’s Majestic Hotel to Cambridgeshire Businessman Mick George by Paul Avery (Managing Director of Montracon), Andy Slater (Managing Director of Road Transport Media) and comedian John Martin. Now in its 4th year, The Tipper Haulier of the Year Honour is awarded to an Independent Haulier that clearly demonstrates sound financial management and an all-round commitment to best practice and improving service levels for their customers.
Mick George started his business with just one tipper truck back in 1978 with the ambition to build a large fleet of vehicles to operate and serve the construction industry. The business has grown to become one of the leading suppliers to the construction industry in East Anglia and the East Midlands and today employs over 700 staff across 20 sites, with a fleet in excess of 290 vehicles.
Over the last few years, the company has invested time and resource into a number of different community based programmes including setting up their own in-house Training Academy for both new and existing drivers, running a ‘Safer Roads’ initiative across the region’s roads and financially supporting a number of community and environmental projects. These are just a few examples of how the company engage with their various communities on a daily basis, making a positive impact on the people and places around their operating sites.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George said: “We’re really pleased to have won this National Award and to be recognised by the industry for all the hard work we put in on a daily basis, improving our business and the communities around our operational sites. As a company we are continuously striving to develop the business, expand the range of services we offer whilst producing and growing talent from within. Winning awards like this clearly demonstrate that we are moving in the right direction and recognises the feats of many within the Company.
“One man’s dream 40 years ago has evolved into a reality today and Mick’s unbounded passion for the company as well as the local communities shines through in everything we do as business, and drives our staff everyday to be best they can be in everything they do. We are extremely proud of our achievements to date and even more excited about the future and fulfilling our growth, development and expansion objectives.”
